Woo Hoo getting ready for Christmas with our one year old son is great.
He cried when he sat on santa's lap, it may have been the camera flash that scared him.
WARNING MALL SANTA'S
The mall Santa wants $25-$30 for a picture and you cannot use your own camera.
Go to Bass pro shops!!! totally free, and you can use your own camera with the option of buying their picture, with no pressure.

TO NO ENDS
Our son had his second cold at one years old, the first was not to bad at 10 months. Except for when he awoke choking on thick mucus. This scared the fecal matter out of us.
We have not yet found any well written material on first aid for mucosa choking. .Some children ingest mucus and then vomit it up.
Trying to keep secretions thinned is the goal.
Fluids , humidity, steam in the bathroom are beneficial.
When using saline nasal spray I warm it up to body temp by putting it in my pocket or under my arm, or between my legs.
Much more research needs to be obtained on how the cilia perform in humans, which are the micro hair like lining of the nasal passage & lungs that beat in a rhythmic wave,
Research does show that temps over 104 slow down the cilia, but warm temps up to 104 benefit cilia.
There is a newer product called "Breathe-ease" that is 'supposed' to be more beneficial to cilia than saline/salt water.

FDA IS WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FDA has our ire up.
With 1 broad stroke from their brush, this inept federal red tape bureaucracy has vilified monitors.
The zz FDA, has a list of products that they claim are ineffective at preventing Sids. Among this product list are "monitors" .They did not specify any type of monitor, and this is where the problem lies.
There is a new monitor made by 'angel care' that can detect when an infant in their crib has stopped breathing. Lets say an infant is in their crib, the alarm goes off, which signals that there is no movement in the crib ie breathing, the parent rushes to the crib and finds the child not breathing, they then perform cpr call 911 and possibly save the infants life.
We now ask the FDA how is this ineffective, useless, or a SCAM ?
Now with the warning from the FDA that MONITOR'S are useless scams, some parents may not purchase this type of device that may have possibly saved their now dead infant from SIDS, because of the Fda's warning !
Why did the FDA not acknowledge this life saving monitor??
The only possible down fall of this breathing/movement monitor is that if there are other vibrations present in the household such as music, washer/dryers, exercisers, a ceiling or floor fan, the monitor will sense these and give a false "ok", so the monitor has to be tweeked/set or not used when other vibrations are present.
If your household is still and quite this monitor works great.
We use this monitor at night when we and our infant are sleeping, and if he were to stop breathing we feel secure that the monitor would alert us to it. It has a sensor pad that goes under the mattress and is so sensitive that it can detect the movement from his breathing.
If we lift him out of the crib and stand still next to the crib the monitor will activate an audible alarm as it is sensing no movement. If we place him back in the crib and stand perfectly still, the monitor shows breathing movement detected by a flashing led light every 10 or 15 seconds.
So with practice and proper use just like everything else, this monitor can save lives.
If the FDA has tested this monitor and has some good insite that would be great.

1ST BDAY COMING!
Our adopted sons first birthday is coming up and it has been the best year of our lives, we would not trade it for anything. Adopting is the best thing you could ever do.
We cant wait to spend as much time of every day with our son. Everything else takes second place over his personality, learning, diapers, bubu's, cries, smiles, incoherent rambling.
We are so glad digital pics were invented, or we would have spent a fortune in photo processing.

leaving home at 9 months
Our son is only 9 months old and it feels like he has left home, because home for him for the last 9 months has been in our arms because he required being held. he no longer needs to be held nor wants to be held. he constantly wants to be on the floor crawling and exploring. time sure flies. at this rate it feels like in a couple of months he will be asking for the car keys.

PCOS
For many the reason for adoption is pcos, which is polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Recent studies have said that women with pcos have a better chance at pregnancy the older
they get.
The question is, is it genetics, body chemistry, or is it due to knowledge, experience, or the odds that the longer you try the better the odds?
PCOS is a living nightmare until the fruition of adoption occurs then it is mostly forgotten, or deemed fate, and the best thing that ever happened, as we love our adopted children just like a birthed child.

WE WANT TO ADOPT ANOTHER CHILD BUT
We want to adopt another child but the system, court, home study, lawyer fee's cost too much.
We can afford another child if not for these bureaucratic fee's which should be funded and free due to the nature of the situation. We would be bringing a child into a nurturing, loving home for the betterment of society as a whole. But instead our Government is spending $800,000 on things like teaching uncircumcised African male's how to wash their genitals. Yes this an actual government funded program of $800,000.

CANT SLEEP WORRIED ABOUT SIDS
SIDS is sudden infant death syndrome.
Do not place, anything in your infants crib, no blankets, pillows, stuffed toys.
Use a sleep sack instead of a blanket.
We feel so much more at ease with the purchase of our Angelcare monitor.
This unique monitor detects movement as subtle as breathing, and alerts you
if no movement is detected every 20 seconds.
Of note when using this monitor is that it must be quiet and still by the crib.
We turned the monitor on, and removed our infant from the crib which should
set the monitor off, but it did not because we had turned on his crib side lulaby
toy, and the monitor was detecting this as his movement.
The Angelcare monitor does have a sensitivity adjustment.

OUR COURT DATE HAS BEEN SET TO FINALIZE THE ADOPTION.
The court which restricts any type of camera or video recording uses common sense
and allows us to bring camera or video camera to record this joyous event.
We cant wait, it feels like 100 Christmas mornings!!!

FIRST MOTHERS DAY!
We had our first Mothers day and it was great!!
If we had not adopted this wonderful dream would never have come true.
We spent the weekend at our inlaws who count the seconds until the next
time they get to see their grandson.
I still occasionally hold our son in my arms while he sleeps and I watch TV, just so I
can spend as much time as possible with him.

SIDS SAFETY SIDS SAFETY
There is a new product on the market by Angelcare.
It is a crib monitor and it is fantastic!!
It's function is to set off an alarm if your baby stops moving/breathing.
The under mattress monitor can detect the slightest movement even the slight
movement created by your baby breathing. So when the monitor does not
detect any movement/breathing for 20 seconds it sounds an alarm to alert
you of a potential adverse situation.
A review of the product on Amazon was all it took to convince me to get one.
Two parents were sleeping when they were awakened by the alarm. They rushed
to their infants crib to find him on his stomach face down not breathing, and turning
blue. The dad quickly performed mouth to mouth while the mom frantically called 911.
After a couple mouth to mouth breaths he started breathing again. What would have happened
if they had not had the Angelcare monitor.
I got ours at Walmart for $65. For some cribs it does require a special Masonite board,
13' x 13' and 1/4 inch thick.

Toes
Our son found his toes, they were never lost, he just did not know they were down there.
Now that he knows they are there he wants them in his mouth, where they should be.
His only waking goal, other than eating, is to put any and everything in his mouth.
He is strong for his age but he does not like tummy time, and does not like to hold his head up nor does he do it well.
So we bought him an interactive electronic ball that moves, flashes, talks, has music a spinner, ribbons, animals,
numbers, and shapes. It is supposed to encourage crawling, and it works great. Instead of crying after awhile of tummy time he wants to continue to play with the ball. He also likes to
play with the ball while sitting up, with the ball in his lap.

ITS STILL THE BEST-EST GREAT-EST THING-EST
4 months 20 days old;
Everyday we get to experience a new "baby thrill."
It may not sound like much but the day our son discovered his feet
was a thrill for us.
He learned how on his own.
That was part of the thrill.

BIG BENEFIT
A huge benefit of adoption is going back to ones religion. We had strayed and become dismayed after many unsuccessful attempts at bearing a child but adoption has completely changed our outlook on everything, we now feel so blessed where as before we felt condemned and why are we so unlucky at the most important part of lives. That is why Adoption is GREAATT ! !
We spent the weekend at Grandma and Grandpa's and had a great time, they love our son soooo much, they got to take him to church and 'show him off ', we went out to eat, a long walk in the park, had portraits done, got ice cream, just one big happy family.

4 month immunization shots
Any shot is painful, but three in a row hurts not only the child but also the parents. Our son did ok, he cried a little but acted slightly sick a few days after. After research we learned that some Dr's are spreading the shots out which seems like the best way of administration.. Dr. OZ dedicated a show to the subject of immunization and autism, which was very informative.
We have to schedule one more home visit with our very helpful social worker, then we get our joyous day in court with a judge when we get our sons birth papers, this will be the happiest day of our lifes!!!

Just got up at 4:00 am for a bottle, he drank 4oz's, falls right back
to sleep, then I hold him for 20 minutes to prevent reflux.
I love him more than life. If you are on the fence about
adoption jump off of it on the yes side, it will be the best
thing you have ever done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Home Study
We had another supervised home study.
Our social worker from CFS ~ Christian
Family Services came to our house on a
Saturday. She asked many questions.
How were we managing with our son.
Did we have any personal time?
Was our son on any type of eating, sleeping routine?
How was he doing at our relatives for day care?
Had we sent the birth parents any pictures?
We have another supervised home study in 3 months
and if all goes well we will have a court date set
before a judge where we will get our much awaited
birth certificate for our pride, joy, & love of our life.

BIG DAY
This saturday is A big big day for our adoption
we received our termination papers and we now
have a supervized visit requested by the county
court.
Please pray with and for us that everything goes well.
Nothing has been this important to us in all of our life.
We love our adopted son with all of our heart and soul.
He is now three months old, we both hold him every minute that we
can, we cherish every bottle, diaper, smile and cry.
We love you Keegan.

OUR DAY IN COURT
We had our day in court.
Kind of.
We were not required to be there.
The birth parents were wired money for gas as they live 100
miles away and are out of work.
Our lawyer was not even there. We now sit and wait to hear what
happened.
Praying.

Our Lawyer
Our lawyer seems competent but things keep
changing which is scary. And papers need to be
resigned due to errors on incorrect info ie:
the correct spelling of the birth parents names.

WAITING FOR COURT DAY
Waiting for our day in court to somewhat finalize
the adoption is nearing. The birth parents can still
change their mind up until that day. If this were to
happen we would be totally devastated. We pray
and keep our finger, toes, and eyes crossed.
Our son has now been with us for 67 days
of the most joy we have ever had.

Our Cost to adopt
We had a direct placement adoption which is where
a couple had to give up their newborn due to
financial reasons and they specifically chose us
with out the use of an agency.
Our home study was approximately $2000.00,
and the lawyer fee's were $4000.00.
Hopefully we will be able to deduct these
amounts on next years tax return.

OUR ADOPTION
My wife and I adopted a new born. It is the best thing
we have ever done.
We were unable to conceive children which is why we adopted.
We should have been open to the thought of adoption even if
we could have conceived children. We now wish to adopt
more children.
Our social worker who did our home study for our adoption
had just adopted a boy who was 15 years old. This is incredible.
I did not even know there were 'homeless' children of that age.
Any one who has the ability to adopt should consider doing
so.
